Cost Of Gallbladder Surgery

Updated: Feb 18

When compared to traditional surgery techniques, laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive with smaller incisions. It also leads to lesser pain and faster recovery rates where patients are able to enjoy a normal lifestyle with bare minimum changes.

Am I eligible for a Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery?

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the most common type of gallbladder surgery. However, if you have severe gallbladder problems or if you have had previous surgery in your upper abdomen it may not be an option for you. Dr Jaideep Raj Rao performs a thorough consultation with his patients before presenting their eligibility options on a case by case basis.

How is Laparoscopic Gallbladder removal in Singapore done?

You will be given general anaesthesia for your laparoscopic surgery which means you will be asleep during your surgery. The surgeon would then, make an incision near your belly button and insert a small device known as a port. This port creates an opening that your surgeon can use to fill gas in order to create space to perform the surgery. A small camera is then inserted through the port so that the surgeon can have a better view of the surgery. Finally, the gallbladder is gently disconnected and taken out through one of the incisions. Usually, an operation like this requires 3 to 4 incisions, but in some cases, it may be more.

When the surgery is finished, the surgeons closes these incisions with tiny stitches, staples, surgical tapes or glue which disappear as you heal.

What to expect post the surgery?

You will be discharged on the day of the procedure or the next day itself. You will experience some pain post the surgery which can be controlled with pain medicine.

Dr Jaideep Raj Rao will consult with you after the surgery to guide you through the pain management, diet and recovery process.

You can go back to normal activity within a week or two after the surgery.
